CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Nurses Complete Versant Training
(SAN ANTONIO, TX – November 28, 2010) – Extensive training, keeping up with new technologies, and professional development opportunities are familiar activities in the daily life of a nurse at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa—on top of providing Five Star Customer Service.
Today, an elite group of 24 registered nurses from across CHRISUTUS Santa Rosa Health System participated in a graduation ceremony to honor their advanced educational accomplishments.
“These 24 nurses have completed hundreds of hours of training beyond what is required,” said Gayle Dasher, RN, director of the Versant Residency Program at CSRHS. “The education and skills each nurse receives better prepares them to enter the hospital environment. Our preceptors are experienced staff nurses who mentor these residents as the next generation of nurses. It’s a special program and we’re proud to offer it at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System.”
As the only Catholic, non-profit health system in San Antonio, CSRHS is the only to offer this program in San Antonio and South Texas.
Since the program’s inception at CSRHS in February 2008, graduates from the Versant Program have been recognized for completing the evidence-based RN residency program. Approximately 340 graduates have completed the program, designed to provide a smooth transition from classroom-based clinicals to patient-based practice.
Versant consists of an 18 week program for RNs who work with adult and pediatric patients. CSRHS offers the program twice a year. This nationally recognized, comprehensive, and evidence-based program transitions nurses into the fast-paced Hospital world with more comprehensive knowledge and an enhanced set of skills. The goal of the program is to teach nurses to provide more consistent patient care.
Staff nurses act as mentors and preceptors, guiding and evaluating each member of the program throughout their interactive classes and skills labs.
